BARBARA COMSTOCK ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, SACRAMENTO
October 2006

Participation was high and students were led through an exercise and stretching routine upon arrival by staff from a local gym.
SHASTA LAKE MIDDLE SCHOOL, SHASTA LAKE
October 2006
Shasta Lake Middle School in the city of Shasta Lake was able to double the number of participants they had in 2005. They also received a donation of Clif bars through California Walk to School headquarters which they served in the morning with a piece of fruit. Students turned in their walkability surveys and the school discovered that while only 15% of students walk to school and 6% of students bike to school, 46% would like to walk to school and 35% would like to bike. They also discovered that 49% of students would be more likely to walk if more adults and parents were walking.

CITY OF AUBURN AND PLACER COUNTY TRANSPORTATION PLANNING AGENCY
October 2006
The City of Auburn and Placer County Transportation Planning Agency (PCTPA) in a collaborative effort brought Way to Go! Walk to School events to five area schools in four days this last October. Each school had the opportunity to participate in a Walking School Bus to promote safer and healthier travel alternatives. The students met at a designated place and time to participate in the walking school bus.
The Auburn Elementary School Event was a major success; officials estimated that approximately 175 students participated. A teacher at Auburn Elementary School challenged the students to walk to school as part of Way to Go!. He stated that if a majority of the students participated in Way to Go! then he would walk to school himself from his house in Colfax to North Auburn.
